Liquid Paraffin + Magnesium Hydroxide
Liquid Paraffin + Magnesium Hydroxide has a dual action of antacid and laxative. Liquid paraffin acts as a laxative; while magnesium hydroxide acts both as a laxative and antacid.
Liquid Paraffin + Magnesium Hydroxide is indicated for the following conditions-
- Constipation
- Acidity
- Anorectal disorders
- Hernia
Adults: The usual adult dosage is 15-30ml in the morning prior to breakfast or before bed time.
Children:
- Over 7 years: 7.5 ml-15 ml before bedtime
- 3-7 years: 5-10 ml before bedtime.
If desired, the dose can be combined with milk or 1⁄2 a glass of water. If you're not under a doctor's care, don't take it for more than a week.
Side effects are rare with the use of Liquid Paraffin + Magnesium Hydroxide. But the followings can occur-
- Rectal irritation
- Hypokalemia
- Polydipsia
- Nausea
- In the aged and disabled, as well as people with compromised liver function, use with caution.
- Hypermagnesemia can also occur in people with decreased renal function.
- Keep all medications out of the reach of children.
- Consult your doctor if constipation persists.
- Children under the age of 12 are not permitted.
- 3 months after opening, discard any unused mixture.
Contraindication
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the medication.
- Coadministration with tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics is contraindicated-
There's no known contraindications of the medication in terms of food and drinks.
Contraindicated in patients with acute gastrointestinal conditions such as abdominal pain.
