Blanching

Blanching is a term that can also refer to a medical condition, although it is not a disease. Blanching in medicine refers to the temporary loss of color or pale appearance of the skin or mucous membranes, often due to decreased blood flow or pressure. It can be a sign of various underlying medical conditions, including anemia, low blood pressure, skin injury, or vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels). In some cases, blanching can also occur in response to cold temperatures or due to medications that affect blood flow.

If blanching is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, swelling, or discoloration, it may indicate a more serious condition and medical attention should be sought.

A healthcare professional can perform a thorough examination and diagnose the underlying cause of blanching to provide appropriate treatment.
