Dextromethorphan + Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride + Triprolidine Hydrochloride
Dextromethorphan + Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride + Triprolidine Hydrochloride is a combination medication that contains an antitussive, a decongestant, and an antihistamine. Dextromethorphan is an antitussive that works by suppressing cough reflex in the brain. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that works by narrowing blood vessels in the nasal passages, which reduces swelling and congestion. Triprolidine is an antihistamine that works by blocking histamine receptors, which reduces symptoms of allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, and itching.
Dextromethorphan + Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride + Triprolidine Hydrochloride is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with upper respiratory tract infections, including nasal congestion, dry cough, sneezing and runny nose.
- Adult: 10 mL 4-6 hourly up to 4 times daily.
- Child: ≥12 years Same as adult dose.
The most common adverse reactions associated with the use of Dextromethorphan + Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride + Triprolidine Hydrochloride include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation and gastrointestinal upset.
- Precautions should be taken in the following groups of patients-

- Patient with hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, elevated intraocular pressure, prostate enlargement, history of drug abuse.
- Moderate to severe renal or severe hepatic impairment.
- Pregnancy and lactation.
- Treatment with a cough medicine in children (especially under 12 years old) should be considered carefully due to potential risks and limited evidence on efficacy.
Contraindication
- Dextromethorphan + Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride + Triprolidine Hydrochloride is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in this medication.
- It should also not be used in patients who are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken an MAOI within the past 14 days.
