Ferrous Fumarate + Folic Acid
Ferrous Fumarate + Folic Acid is a combination medication. This is typically used as a supplement during pregnancy. Folic acid is an essential nutrient that is required in various metabolic processes.
- One tablet or capsule is usually taken once a day.
- The dose should be started at the first antenatal consultation and continued until 3 months after delivery throughout pregnancy.
Side effects are usually rare with the use of Ferrous Fumarate + Folic Acid. But ferrous fumarate can cause the following reactions-
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Allergy
- It's possible that taking Ferrous Fumerate and Folic acid during the first trimester of pregnancy isn't a good idea.
- Physiological dosages of Folic acid protect just a small percentage of pregnant women.
- Patients should be evaluated further if anemia develops despite prevention with Ferrous Fumerate and Folic acid.
- Iron absorption is low in certain post-gastrectomy patients. When treating peptic ulcer patients, caution is required.
Contraindication
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the medication.
- Co-administration with magnesium trisilicate is contraindicated.
There's no known contraindication of Ferrous Fumarate and Folic acid in terms of food and drinks.
Contraindicated in Pernicious anemia.
