Remarks

Ephedrine Hydrochloride

Ephedrine hydrochloride belongs to the class of sympathomimetic agents. Ephedrine hydrochloride stimulates the adrenergic receptors, specifically the alpha and beta receptors. It acts as a direct sympathomimetic agent, increasing the release of norepinephrine and stimulating the adrenergic receptors in various tissues. This results in vasoconstriction, bronchodilation, and increased cardiac output.

  • Ephedrine hydrochloride is indicated for the temporary relief of shortness of breath, chest tightness, and wheezing associated with asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions.
  • It is also used as a nasal decongestant and for the treatment of low blood pressure during spinal anesthesia.
