Butamirate Citrate

Butamirate citrate belongs to a new class of cough suppressants that centrally through the receptors in the brainstem. It also reduces the resistance in the airways by inhibiting bronchospasm and anti-inflammatory effect.

Butamirate is indicated for the symptomatic relief of non productive/ dry cough.

 

Adult: 

  • 50 mg tablet: 2 or 3 tablets daily at intervals of 8 or 12 hours.
  • As 7.5 mg/5 mL syrup: 22.5 mg (15 mL) up to 4 times daily. Max: 90 mg (60 mL) daily.
  • Dosage recommendations may vary among countries or individual products (refer to specific product guidelines).

The following side effects may occur with the use of butamirate citrate-
  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • drowsiness
  • dizziness
  • rash
  • urticaria

 

  • Butamirate Citrate should not be used as a rescue medication for sudden worsening of respiratory symptoms.
  • The medication should not be used in patients with a history of severe hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines.
  • Patients should be advised to seek medical attention immediately if they experience any worsening of their respiratory symptoms while taking Butamirate Citrate.

 

Contraindication

Butamirate Citrate is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients in the product.
