Amlodipine
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB). It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and angina, which is a form of chest discomfort. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications to treat these issues.
Amlodipine is used to treat the following health conditions-
- Hypertension
- Angina
- Amlodipine is available as tablets.
- The usual starting dose for both hypertension and angina is 5 mg amlodipine once day, which may be increased to a maximum dose of 10 mg depending on the patient's reaction. Amlodipine can be used alone or in conjunction with other medications to treat angina.
- After initiating or increasing the dose of Amlodipine, patients with severe obstructive coronary artery disease may experience worsening angina and sudden myocardial infarction.
- When providing Amlodipine to patients with significant hepatic impairment, titrate carefully since Amlodipine is extensively metabolized by the liver and has a plasma elimination half-life (t1/2) of 56 hours in patients with impaired hepatic function.
Contraindication
Amlodipine is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to amlodipineor any other dihydropyridines derivatives, such as-
