Crotamiton

Crotamiton is an anti-parasitic medication used to treat scabies infestation. It works by killing the mites that cause scabies and by relieving itching and inflammation associated with the infection.

 

Crotamiton lotion is indicated for the treatment of scabies and pruritus in adults and children over two years of age.

 

  • In Scabies: Thoroughly massage into the skin of the whole body from the chin down, paying particular attention to all folds and creases. A second application is advisable 24 hours later. Clothing and bed linen should be changed the next morning. A cleansing bath should be taken 48 hours after the last application.  In
  • Pruritus: Massage gently into affected areas until medication is completely absorbed. Repeat as needed.  

The most common adverse reactions associated with crotamiton lotion include-

mild itching

redness

skin irritation at the application site.

In rare cases, severe allergic reactions such as rash, hives, and difficulty breathing may occur. Contact a healthcare provider if any adverse reactions occur.

 

Crotamiton lotion should not be used on broken skin or near the eyes, nose, or mouth. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of allergic reactions to crotamiton or any of its components. If any allergic reactions occur, treatment should be stopped immediately.

 

Contraindication

Crotamiton lotion is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to crotamiton or any of its components.

 

Crotamiton lotion should not be used on broken skin or near the eyes, nose, or mouth.

Crotamiton lotion should not be used in children under two years of age without the supervision of a healthcare provider.
