Dicycloverine Hydrochloride

Dicycloverine Hydrochloride is an antispasmodic agent. Dicycloverine exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors, leading to smooth muscle relaxation in the gastrointestinal tract.

Dicycloverine Hydrochloride is indicated for:

  • Treatment of functional bowel/irritable bowel syndrome
  • Symptomatic relief of gastrointestinal tract spasms
  • Reduction of symptoms associated with colic
  • The usual adult dose is 10 to 20 mg, four times daily before meals and at bedtime.
  • Adjust the dosage based on individual response and tolerance.
  • Administer the oral solution with a full glass of water.

Common to Less Common Adverse Reactions of dicyclomine incude-

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Nervousness
  • Constipation

Contraindication

  • Contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to dicycloverine hydrochloride or related drugs.
  • Contraindicated in patients with obstructive conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis.
