Febuxostat
Febuxostat is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which is responsible for the production of uric acid in the body. By reducing the production of uric acid, Febuxostat helps lower the levels of uric acid in the blood and prevent the formation of uric acid crystals, which are the main cause of gout.
Febuxostat is indicated for the chronic management of hyperuricemia in patients with gout.
- The recommended starting dose of Febuxostat is 40 mg once daily.
- The maximum recommended dose is 80 mg once daily.
- The dose may be adjusted based on individual patient response and tolerance.
- Febuxostat should be taken with a meal to improve its absorption.
The most common adverse reactions associated with Febuxostat therapy include:

Contraindication
