Gliclazide

Gliclazide is a prescription medication used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. It is an oral hypoglycemic medication belonging to the sulfonylurea class of drugs. It works by increasing insulin secretion from the pancreas to help lower blood sugar levels. Gliclazide stimulates the beta cells of the pancreas to release more insulin into the bloodstream. This results in improved insulin sensitivity and a decrease in blood sugar levels.

Gliclazide is used to treat type 2 diabetes, a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells do not respond properly to insulin.

The recommended starting dose of Gliclazide is usually 30 mg to 80 mg once daily with breakfast. The dose may be adjusted by a healthcare provider based on individual response and blood sugar levels. It is important to take Gliclazide exactly as prescribed and not to exceed the recommended dose.

Common side effects of Gliclazide include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), headache, nausea, and skin reactions. More serious side effects include liver problems and allergic reactions.

It is important to inform a healthcare provider about any pre-existing medical conditions, other medications being taken, and any allergies before starting treatment with Gliclazide. Alcohol consumption should be limited while taking Gliclazide.

Contraindication

Gliclazide may interact with other medications such as Insulin, Aspirin,  and Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

It is important to inform a healthcare provider about all medications being taken before starting treatment with Gliclazide.
