Remarks

Hypromellose

Hypromellose, also known as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, belongs to the class of artificial tears and lubricants. It acts as an ocular lubricant by forming a protective film on the ocular surface, providing relief from dryness and irritation. Hypromellose helps maintain proper hydration and lubrication on the corneal surface.

Hypromellose is indicated for the temporary relief of dry eye symptoms, including discomfort, burning, and irritation, due to inadequate tear production or excessive tear evaporation.

The dosage and administration of Hypromellose vary depending on the specific product and the severity of dry eye symptoms. Generally, one to two drops are instilled into the affected eye(s) as needed throughout the day.

Common adverse reactions associated with the use of Hypromellose may include:

  • Transient blurred vision
  • Eye irritation or discomfort
  • Allergic reactions, such as itching or redness
  • Increased tearing
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Contact Lens Use: Hypromellose may be used with contact lenses; however, contact lenses should be removed before administration and reinserted after 15 minutes.

  • Infection Risk: Patients should be advised to avoid touching the tip of the dropper to prevent contamination. If eye infection persists or worsens, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.

  • Pregnancy and Lactation: Use Hypromellose with caution in pregnant or lactating women, considering the potential risks and benefits.

  • Visual Effects: Temporary blurred vision may occur after administration. Caution patients against engaging in activities that require clear vision until vision is restored.

Contraindication

Hypromellose is contraindicated in individuals with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to Hypromellose or any component of the formulation.
