Anastrozol
Anastrozole is a medication used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It is a type of aromatase inhibitor, which works by blocking the production of estrogen in the body. Breast cancer cells are responsive to estrogen; where estrogen stimulates the proliferation of the cancer cells.
Anastrozole is indicated for-
- Adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer
- First-line treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive or hormone receptor unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer
- Extended adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have received 5 years of adjuvant tamoxifen therapy
The recommended dosage for adults is one 1mg tablet taken once daily.
Side effects associated with Anastrozole include-
