Levamisole
Levamisole is an anthelmintic agent with immunomodulatory properties. It selectively stimulates the immune system, enhancing the activity of certain white blood cells such as neutrophils and macrophages. It also influences the production of various cytokines, promoting an immune response against parasitic infections.
Levamisole is indicated for:
- Treatment of certain parasitic worm infections, including intestinal roundworm infections.
- Adjunctive therapy for the management of colon cancer.
Treatment for Ascariasis:
- Adults: Administer a single dose of 150 mg.
- Children: Administer a single dose of 3 mg/kg.
Oral Treatment for Ancylostomiasis and Mixed Ascariasis-Hookworm Infections:
- Adults: Administer a single dose of 2.5 mg/kg, and repeat after 7 days in severe cases.
- Children: Administer a single dose of 2.5 mg/kg, and repeat after 7 days in severe cases.
Common Adverse Reactions:
- Nausea

- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea

Agranulocytosis and Aplastic Anemia:
- Monitor complete blood counts regularly during treatment, especially in prolonged therapy.
