Remarks

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, viscoelastic solution of highly purified sodium hyaluronate, a natural substance present in the body. It acts as a lubricant and shock absorber in joint tissues and as a vitreous humor substitute in ophthalmic surgery. When applied topically to the eye, it acts as an artificial tear substitute, providing lubrication and hydration to the corneal and conjunctival surfaces.

Sodium Hyaluronate is indicated for the treatment of dry eye syndrome, corneal abrasions, and for use as a surgical aid in ophthalmic procedures, including cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

The recommended dose for Sodium Hyaluronate ophthalmic solution is 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed. For use during ophthalmic surgery, the dosage and administration should be determined by the ophthalmic surgeon.

The most common adverse reactions associated with the use of Sodium Hyaluronate ophthalmic solution are transient blurring of vision and mild eye irritation, including burning, stinging, and itching. Less common adverse reactions include eye pain, foreign body sensation, conjunctival hyperemia, and photophobia.

  • Sodium Hyaluronate ophthalmic solution is for topical ophthalmic use only and should not be injected.
  • Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to hyaluronate products should not use this medication.
  • If eye irritation or pain persists or worsens after using Sodium Hyaluronate ophthalmic solution, patients should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate ophthalmic solution should be used with caution in patients with a history of allergic reactions to other ophthalmic products, as well as in those with ocular surface disease or corneal epithelial defects.
  • The use of Sodium Hyaluronate ophthalmic solution in pregnant or nursing women has not been studied, and caution should be exercised when using this medication in these populations.

Contraindication

Sodium Hyaluronate ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

It should not be used in patients with active ocular infections or in those with severe ocular surface disease.
