Sucralfate
Sucralfate is a medication that belongs to the class of drugs called gastric mucosal protective agents. It is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It works by forming a protective barrier on the ulcer, which helps to reduce the contact of acid in the stomach the ulcer and promote healing of the ulcer.

- If you experience any allergic reactions such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek medical attention immediately.
Sucralfate is indicated in the following conditions-
- Treatment and prevention of duodenal ulcers
- Gastric ulcers
- Esophagitis
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- The recommended adult dose for duodenal ulcer is 1 gram (two tablets) four times a day on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after meals.
- The recommended adult dose for gastric ulcer is 1 gram four times a day on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after meals.
- The recommended adult dose for GERD is 1 gram four times a day on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after meals.
Common side effects of sucralfate include-
- constipation
- diarrhea
- hypophosphatemia
- abdominal pain.
- Sucralfate may interfere with the absorption of certain medications such as tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, and ciprofloxacin. Therefore, these medications should be taken at least 2 hours before or after taking sucralfate.
- Sucralfate should be used with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment.
- Sucralfate should not be used in patients with bleeding or perforated gastrointestinal tract.
Contraindication
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to sucralfate or any component of the formulation
