Thiamine Hydrochloride

Thiamine Hydrochloride is a preparation of vitamin B1. Vitamin B1, often known as thiamine, allows the body to utilize carbohydrates for energy. It is required for glucose metabolism and is important for nerve, muscle, and cardiac function.

Thiamine Hydrochloride is indicated for the following conditions-

  • Beriberi
  • Wernicke's encephalopathy
  • Neuritis associated with pregnancy and pellagra
  • Vitamin B1 deficiency

  • For Prophylaxis, the usual dose is  3 to 10 mg per day.
  • In case of mild chronic deficiency the recommended dose 10 to 25 mg daily.
  • In Severe deficiency, the dose is 200 to 300 mg daily.

Thiamine preparations are generally well tolerated. In some people, the urine may turn orange. In case of overdosage, the following side effects may appear.
