Bepotastine Besilate

Bepotastine Besilate belongs to the class of antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of histamine release, as well as acting as a histamine H1 receptor antagonist. Additionally, it exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells.

Bepotastine Besilate is indicated for the treatment of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis. It is also used for the symptomatic relief of itching due to hives (urticaria).

Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) twice a day.

Common adverse reactions associated with Bepotastine Besilate include:

  • Headache
  • Taste disturbance
  • Eye irritation
  • Rhinitis (runny or stuffy nose)
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • To minimize the risk of contamination, do not touch dropper tip to any surface.  Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use.
  • Bepotastine Besilate should not be used to treat contact lens-related irritation.
  • Remove contact lenses prior to instillation of Bepotastine Besilate.
