Sulphacetamide Sodium

Sulphacetamide Sodium is a sulfonamide antibiotic that works by inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria. It achieves this by interfering with the synthesis of folic acid, which is essential for bacterial cell division and metabolism. By inhibiting folic acid production, Sulphacetamide Sodium effectively targets and treats bacterial infections in the affected area.

  • Sulphacetamide Sodium lotion is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the skin and mucous membranes, particularly those caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. Common indications for its use include infections of the eyes, eyelids, and surrounding skin.
  • Sulphacetamide Sodium lotion is indicated in the topical treatment of acne vulgaris.

Apply a thin film to affected areas twice daily.

Adverse reactions to Sulphacetamide Sodium lotion may include:

  • Local irritation, redness, or stinging at the application site.
  • Allergic reactions, such as skin rash or itching.
  • Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions may occur, leading to severe skin reactions.

  • Avoid direct contact with the eyes. In case of accidental eye contact, flush the eyes thoroughly with water and seek medical attention.
  • Use with caution in patients with a known history of sulfonamide hypersensitivity or allergies.
  • Do not use the lotion if the patient has a known sensitivity to sulfa drugs or sulphonamides.
  • Prolonged use of the lotion may result in bacterial resistance, so the duration of treatment should be as prescribed by the healthcare professional.
  • Discontinue the use of the lotion and seek medical advice if any signs of hypersensitivity or adverse reactions occur.

Contraindication

Sulphacetamide Sodium lotion is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to sulfa drugs or sulphonamides.
