Sulphaclozine

Sulphaclozine belongs to the sulfonamide class of drugs. It works by inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria by interfering with the synthesis of folic acid, an essential component for bacterial growth.

 

Sulphaclozine powder is indicated for coccidiosis, fowl typhoid due to infection with Salmonellan gallinarum and fowl cholera due to infection with Pasteurella multocida.

 

 

In case of treatment and prevention of coccidiosis, Sulphaclozine powder should be used according to following mentioned schedule.

For treatment:- 

  • Species: All types of poultry
  • Age: Any age stage
  • Inclusion rate: Drinking water-2.5 gm/liter of water Feed-2.5 gm/Kg of feed
  • Duration: For 3-5 consecutive days

 

 

 

 

 

Adverse reactions to Sulphaclozine are relatively uncommon, but they may include:

  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., skin rash, itching)
  • Blood disorders (e.g., anemia, leukopenia)
  • Kidney and liver dysfunction in rare cases.

 

  • Use with caution in animals with a known history of sulfonamide hypersensitivity or allergies.
  • Ensure proper dosage and duration of treatment as prolonged use or incorrect dosing may lead to bacterial resistance.
  • Avoid administering Sulphaclozine to pregnant or lactating animals, unless specifically advised by a veterinarian.
  • Monitoring of kidney and liver function is recommended during prolonged therapy to prevent potential adverse effects.
  • Discontinue the use of the drug if any signs of hypersensitivity or adverse reactions occur and seek veterinary advice immediately.
  • Avoid use in food-producing animals intended for human consumption unless explicitly prescribed by a veterinarian.

 

Contraindication

Sulphaclozine should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to sulfa drugs or sulphonamides.
