Tiemonium Methylsulphate

Tiemonium Methylsulphate belongs to the class of drugs known as antispasmodics. It exerts its action by blocking the action of acetylcholine on smooth muscle, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract. By inhibiting acetylcholine receptors, tiemonium methylsulphate helps to relax and reduce spasms in the smooth muscles, thereby relieving symptoms associated with spastic conditions.

 

Tiemonium Methylsulphate is indicated for the treatment of various gastrointestinal conditions, including:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Colicky pain associated with the gastrointestinal tract
  • Spasms of the urinary tract and biliary system
  • Spasmodic dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramps)

 

Tablet: The usual dosages of Timozin are 2 to 6 tablets (100-300 mg) daily in divided doses as required.
Injection: 1 ampoule by slow IV/IM injection 3 times daily.
Syrup:

  • Children: 3 ml/ kg body weight daily in 3 divided doses. 10 kg. wt. baby- 2 teaspoonful 3 times daily. 15 kg. wt. baby- 3 teaspoonful 3 times daily.
  • Adult: 5-15 ml 3 times daily.

 

Tiemonium Methylsulphate may cause the following side effects-

  • Dry mouth
  • Blurred vision
  • Urinary retention
  • Constipation
  • Decreased sweating
  • Drowsiness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Allergic reactions (rare)

 

  • Glaucoma: Tiemonium Methylsulphate may increase intraocular pressure and should be used with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Urinary retention: Tiemonium Methylsulphate may cause urinary retention, especially in patients with prostatic hypertrophy or bladder-neck obstruction. It should be used with caution in such patients.
  • Gastrointestinal obstruction: Use tiemonium methylsulphate with caution in patients with known or suspected gastrointestinal obstruction.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: The safety of tiemonium methylsulphate in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. It should be used only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks and under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
  • Children: The safety and efficacy of tiemonium methylsulphate in children have not been established. It should be used with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

 

Contraindication

Tiemonium Methylsulphate is contraindicated in individuals with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to tiemonium methylsulphate or any of its components
  •  

 

Tiemonium Methylsulphate is contraindicated in individuals with:

  • Megacolon or paralytic ileus
  • Severe ulcerative colitis
  • Toxic megacolon
