Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine

Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine is a vaccine used to provide active immunization against the bacteria Salmonella typhi, which causes typhoid fever. It belongs to the class of vaccines known as polysaccharide vaccines. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the polysaccharide coating of the Salmonella typhi bacteria, thereby providing protection against typhoid fever.

  • Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine is indicated for active immunization against typhoid fever in individuals aged 2 years and older.
  • It is recommended for use in individuals traveling to or residing in areas where typhoid fever is endemic or for individuals at increased risk of exposure to Salmonella typhi.
  • The dosage and administration of Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine should be determined by a healthcare professional.
  • The vaccine is administered as a single dose injection, usually given intramuscularly (IM) in the deltoid muscle.
  • RESTRICTED TO ADULTS AND CHILDREN OVER 2 YEARS OF AGE.
  • A single dose (0.5 ml) is enough.
  • If exposure to risk continues, revaccination will be performed every 3 years.
  • The vaccination schedule is the same for children and for adults.

Adverse reactions to Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine may include:

  • Local reactions at the injection site (such as pain, redness, or swelling)
  • Mild systemic reactions (such as fever, headache, or malaise)
  • Allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, or hives)

  • Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine should not be administered to individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine.
  • It is important to inform the healthcare professional about any history of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, prior to receiving the vaccine.
  • The vaccine may not provide 100% protection against typhoid fever, and additional precautions should be taken to prevent infection (such as practicing good hygiene and avoiding contaminated food and water).
  • The vaccine is not recommended for use in individuals who are acutely ill or have a high fever.

Contraindication

  • Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine or a previous history of severe allergic reactions to the vaccine.

It should not be administered during acute febrile illness.
