Chlorpheniramine Maleate works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical released by the body that causes allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. Dexamethasone is a steroid that helps to reduce inflammation and swelling.

 

This drug combination is indicated for the treatment of-

  • seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
  • acute and chronic dermatitis
  • contact dermatitis
  • atopic dermatitis
  • insect bite reactions

 

The dosage of Chlorpheniramine Maleate + Dexamethasone depends on the patient's age, weight, and medical condition. It is usually given as a tablet or syrup, taken orally, with or without food. The following are the recommended dosages for different age groups:

  • Adults and children over 12 years old: 1-2 tablets or 5-10 mL of syrup every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 12 tablets or 60 mL in a 24-hour period.
  • Children aged 6-12 years: 0.5-1 tablet or 2.5-5 mL of syrup every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 6 tablets or 30 mL in a 24-hour period.
  • Children aged 2-6 years: 0.25-0.5 tablet or 1.25-2.5 mL of syrup every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 3 tablets or 15 mL in a 24-hour period.

Contraindication

Chlorpheniramine Maleate + Dexamethasone is contraindicated in patients who have a known hypersensitivity to any of its components.

 

Chlorpheniramine Maleate + Dexamethasone is contraindicated in patients as well as in patients with systemic fungal or bacterial infections.
