Calcipotriol

Calcipotriol is a form of vitamin D. It is available as a cream. It works by slowing the excessive production of skin cells.

 

Calcipotriol is indicated for the treatment of Psoriasis.

Apply a thin coating of Calcipotriol Cream twice daily to the afflicted skin and gently rub it in. Calcipotriol Cream has been shown to be safe and effective in patients who were treated for eight weeks.

Side effects associated with use of calcipotriol cream include-

  • burning
  • itching
  • skin irritation
  • Erythema
  • dry skin
  • peeling
  • rash
  • dermatitis
  • worsening of psoriasis
  • skin atrophy
  • hyperpigmentation
  • hypercalcemia
  • folliculitis
  • Calcipotriol cream might irritate lesions as well as unaffected skin. Calcipotriol cream should be stopped if irritation occurs.
  • Only for external use. Keep out of children's reach.
  • After each use, wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Calcipotriol cream has been linked to a transient, reversible increase in serum calcium. If serum calcium levels rise above the usual range, stop medication and wait for normal calcium levels to return.

Contraindication

Dovonex® is contraindicated in those patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation. 

Calcipotriol cream should not be used by patients with hypercalcemia or evidence of vitamin D toxicity. It should not be used on the face.
