Fluocinolone + Hydroquinone + Tretinoin

This is a cream containing fluocinolone acetonide (a corticosteroid), hydroquinone (a melanin synthesis inhibitor), and tretinoin (a retinoid). Hydroquinone causes reversible skin lightening by interfering with melanin production by melanocytes. In particular, blocking the enzymatic conversion of tyrosine to DOPA (dihydroxyphenylalanine) causes the desired chemical reduction of pigment.

Fluocinolone + Hydroquinone + Tretinoin is indicated for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe melasma of the face.

  • Melasma of the face
  • Once a day, apply a thin film to the affected area at least 30 minutes before going to bed.
  • Wear SPF 30 sunscreen and protective clothing during the day. Avoid direct sunlight exposure.

Most common adverse reactions are-

  • erythema
  • desquamation
  • burning
  • dryness
  • pruritus
  • acne
  • Fluocinolone + Hydroquinone + Tretinoin Cream contains sodium metabisulfite, a sulfite that, in susceptible individuals, can cause allergic-type reactions such as anaphylactic symptoms and life-threatening asthmatic episodes. If anaphylaxis, asthma, or another clinically significant hypersensitivity reaction occurs, discontinue Fluocinolone + Hydroquinone + Tretinoin and begin appropriate treatment.
  • Fluocinolone + Hydroquinone + Tretinoin Cream contains hydroquinone, which may cause exogenous ochronosis, or a gradual blue-black darkening of the skin, which should prompt therapy discontinuation.
