Fluorometholone + Gentamicin

Fluorometholone + Gentamicin is a combination medication containing the corticosteroid fluorometholone and the aminoglycoside antibiotic gentamicin. Fluorometholone works by reducing inflammation in the eye, while gentamicin works by preventing the growth and replication of bacteria.

Fluorometholone + Gentamicin (ophthalmic) is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions where bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial infection exists. These conditions may include conjunctivitis, keratitis, scleritis, iritis, and uveitis.

The dosage and administration of Fluorometholone + Gentamicin vary depending on the age and condition of the patient. It is usually recommended to apply one or two drops into the affected eye(s) every four to six hours. The dosage may be adjusted by the physician based on the severity of the condition and the patient's response to treatment.

The following adverse reactions may occur with the use of Fluorometholone + Gentamicin:

  • Burning or stinging of the eye
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye irritation or discomfort
  • Eye redness
  • Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, and swelling

  • Fluorometholone + Gentamicin (ophthalmic) should not be used to treat viral or fungal infections of the eye, as it may worsen the condition.
  • The medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of herpes simplex virus, as it may cause a recurrence of the infection.
  • Prolonged use of corticosteroids in the eye may lead to glaucoma or cataract formation.
  • The patient should be advised not to touch the tip of the dropper to avoid contamination.
  • The medication should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to any of its components.
