Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride

Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride is a combination medication consisting of a corticosteroid (Fluorometholone) and a vasoconstrictor (Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride). Fluorometholone is a synthetic glucocorticoid that has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It works by reducing the production of inflammatory chemicals in the body. Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride is a vasoconstrictor that works by narrowing blood vessels in the eye, thereby reducing redness and swelling.

Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride is indicated for the treatment of-

  • Acute and chronic allergic non-infectious conjunctivitis and keratitis with severe swelling and intravascular injection
  • Non-infectious inflammation of the anterior segment of the eye (including anterior uveitis, episcleritis and scleritis)
  • Post-operative irritative conditions after strabismus; cataract & glaucoma surgery with supplementary antimicrobial therapy.

The recommended dosage for Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride is one to two drops in the affected eye(s) two to four times a day. The dosage may be adjusted based on the severity of the condition and the individual response. The medication should not be used for more than ten days without medical supervision.

The most common adverse reactions associated with Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride include burning, stinging, itching, and dryness of the eye. Other less common adverse reactions may include blurred vision, increased intraocular pressure, allergic reactions, and corneal ulcers.

  • Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to any of its components.
  • The medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure as it may further elevate intraocular pressure.
  • Prolonged use of Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride may result in cataract formation, optic nerve damage, and visual defects. Therefore, the medication should not be used for more than ten days without medical supervision.
  • The use of Fluorometholone + Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride may mask the signs of infection and delay the healing process. Therefore, it should not be used in patients with viral, fungal, or bacterial infections of the eye.
