Glipizide + Metformin Hydrochloride
Glipizide + Metformin Hydrochloride is an antidiabetic combination of Glipizide & Metformin. Glipizide belongs to the sulfonylurea class of antidiabetic drugs. Glipizide is an insulin secretagogue which works by inhibiting K+ channels of beta cells and ultimately increasing the secretion of insulin. Metformin is a hypoglycemic agent belonging to the class Biguanides. Metformin enhances insulin sensitivity by boosting peripheral glucose uptake and utilization, decreasing hepatic glucose synthesis, and decreasing intestinal glucose absorption.
Glipizide + Metformin Hydrochloride is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Dosage of METAGLIP must be individualized on the basis of both effectiveness and tolerance while not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of 20 mg glipizide/2000 mg metformin.
