Cefditoren pivoxil
Cefditoren pivoxil is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. It is a bactericidal antibiotic.
Cefditoren is indicated for the following infections caused by susceptible organisms-
- Skin infections
- Tonsilitis
- Pharyngitis
- Bronchitis
- Community acquired pneumonia
Cefditoren is available as oral tablets. The dosage can vary between 200 & 400 mg depending on the type of infection. It should be taken after a meal.
Patients with renal impairment should be monitored and may require dosage adjustment.
Contraindication
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ant beta lactam antibiotics.
- Cefditoren is also contraindicated in patients with carnitine deficiency.
- As the medication contains sodium caseinate, it is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to casein.
