Gadodiamide

Gadodiamide is a paramagnetic contrast agent used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It contains gadolinium, a rare earth metal, which shortens the relaxation time of nearby protons, enhancing the signal intensity and providing improved visualization of tissues and structures during MRI.

Gadodiamide is a gadolinium-based contrast agent for diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) indicated for intravenous use to:

  • Visualize lesions with abnormal vascularity in the brain, spine, and associated tissues
  • Facilitate the visualization of lesions with abnormal vascularity within the thoracic, abdominal, pelvic cavities, and the retroperitoneal space

CNS :Adults and Pediatrics; 2-16 years of age: 0.2 mL/kg (0.1 mmol/kg)

Body: Adults and Pediatrics; 2-16 years of age:

  • Kidney: 0.1 mL/kg (0.05 mmol/kg)
  • Intrathoracic, intra-abdominal, and pelvic cavities: 0.2 mL/kg (0.1 mmol/kg)

Most Common Adverse Reactions:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Injection site reactions (e.g., pain, warmth, and burning sensation)

Serious or life-threatening reactions include: cardiac failure, arrhythmia and myocardial infarction.

  • Inadvertent intrathecal use of Gadodiamide has caused convulsions, coma, sensory and motor neurologic deficits.
  • Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF):

    • Gadodiamide may increase the risk of NSF in patients with impaired renal function. Assess renal function before administration.
  • Hypersensitivity Reactions:

    • Anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions, sometimes fatal, have been reported. Administer a test dose in patients with a history of allergy.
  • Renal Impairment:

    • Gadodiamide is contraindicated in patients with acute kidney injury or chronic severe renal impairment.
  • Pregnancy and Lactation:

    • Use Gadodiamide during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

Contraindication

Gadodiamide is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to gadolinium-based contrast agents.

Gadodiamide is contraindicated in patients with:s.

  • Acute kidney injury
  • chronic severe renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate <30 mL/min/1.73m²).
