Olopatadine

Olopatadine is a selective histamine H1 antagonist that is classified as an antihistamine. Its mechanism of action involves blocking histamine receptors in the body, thereby reducing the effects of histamine, which is a chemical released during an allergic reaction. This leads to a reduction in the symptoms associated with allergic reactions.

Olopatadine hydrochloride solution is indicated for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

The recommended dose is one drop in each affected eye once a day.

  • For topical ocular use only.
  • Not for injection or oral use.

  • Olopatadine should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to olopatadine or any of its components.
  • It should also be used with caution in patients with severe renal impairment.
  • Olopatadine may cause drowsiness, and patients should be advised not to drive or operate heavy machinery until they know how the medication affects them.
  • Olopatadine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
  • It is not known whether olopatadine is excreted in human milk, and caution should be exercised when administering olopatadine to nursing mothers.

Contraindication

Olopatadine is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to olopatadine or any of its components.
