Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil is the aromatic oil extracted from the leaves of the plant Mentha piperita. Peppermint oil has many medicinal benefits.
Peppermint oil is indicated in-
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Indigestion
- Acidity
- Nausea/Vomiting
- Sore throat
- Cough
For non serious constipation and diarrhea associated with IBS, the maximum dose is 1200 mg per day.
Use of peppermint has been linked to negative side effects, especially at larger doses. Due to the effects of the emmenagogue, avoid internal use.
Contraindication
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the medication.
