Perindopril Erbumin

Perindopril Erbumine competitively inhibits the conversion of angiotensin I (ATI) to angiotensin II (ATII), thus resulting in reduced ATII levels and aldosterone secretion. It also increases plasma renin activity and bradykinin levels.

Perindopril Erbumine is indicated for the following conditions-

  • Essential hypertension
  • Stable coronary artery disease,
  • Congestive heart failure.

Perindopril is available as tablets.

Hypertension: Once a day, take one Perindopril 4 mg pill, preferably in the morning. After one month of treatment, the dose may be increased to 8 mg if necessary. Perindopril should be taken first thing in the morning.

Heart failure: Perindopril should be started at a dose of 2 mg in the morning under physician supervision. The dose can be increased to 4 mg if necessary.

Stable coronary artery disease: Perindopril 4 mg once a day for two weeks, then increased to 8 mg once daily depending on renal function and well-tolerance of the 4 mg dose.

Geriatric patients may require dosage adjustment.

Perindopril can cause the following side effects-

  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Asthenia
  • Dizziness
  • Hypotension
  • Patients on ACE inhibitors may experience a number of side effects, some of which are serious, since angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors influence the metabolism of eicosanoids and polypeptides, including endogenous bradykinin. Angioedema is more common in black patients on ACE inhibitors than in non-black patients.
  • Angioedema of the face, extremities, lips, tongue, glottis, or larynx has been reported in patients treated with ACE inhibitors.
  • Use of drugs that act on the renin-angiotensin system during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy reduces fetal renal function and increases fetal and neonatal morbidity and death.

Contraindication

Perindopril Erbumine is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to this product or any other angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (e.g., a patient who has experienced angioedema during therapy with any other ACE inhibitor). Such as-
