Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan Medoxomil
Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan Medoxomil is a combination of telmisartan, an orally active, AT1 receptor subtype specific angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic.
This combination is used to treat Hypertension.
- Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan medoxomil is available as tablets. It is administered once daily, with or without food.
- The combination of hydrochlorothiazide and olmesartan medoxomil is intended for people whose blood pressure is not managed sufficiently by 20 mg olmesartan medoxomil alone.
- In patients whose blood pressure is not sufficiently managed by the optimal monotherapy of olmesartan medoxomil 20 mg alone, 20 mg olmesartan medoxomil/12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide may be used.
Common Side effects associated with Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan medoxomil are as follows-
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Asthenia
- Chest pain
- Peripheral edema
- During the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, medications that act on the renin-angiotensin system impair fetal renal function and increase fetal and newborn morbidity and death.
- In controlled trials, patients with uncomplicated hypertension treated with Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan medoxomil experienced a very little (0.7 percent) drop in blood pressure. Symptomatic hypotension can occur in patients with an active renin-angiotensin system, such as volume- and/or salt-depleted patients on high doses of diuretics.
Contraindication
- Contraindicated to the patients who are sensitive to hydrochlorothiazide or to other sulfonamide-derived drugs, such as-
- Contraindicated to the patients who are sensitive to Olmesartan medoxomil or other ARBs, such as-
- Concomitant use of Hydrochlorothiazide + Olmesartan medoxomil with aliskiren containing products in patients with diabetes mellitus or renal impairment.
- Hydrochlorothiazide + Telmisartan is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney problems (GFR 30 mL/min) and anuria due to the hydrochlorothiazide component.
- Hydrochlorothiazide + Telmisartan is contraindicated in patients with significant hepatic problems or biliary cirrhosis and cholestasis due to the Telmisartan component.
