Remarks

Ipratropium Bromide + Salbutamol

Ipratropium bromide is an anticholinergic (parasympatholytic) agent which, based on animal studies, appears to inhibit vagally-mediated reflexes by antagonizing the action of acetylcholine, the transmitter agent released at the neuromuscular junctions in the lung. Anticholinergics prevent the increases in intracellular concentration of Ca++ which is caused by interaction of acetylcholine with the muscarinic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle. Salbutamol is a beta2 adrenergic receptor agonist that binds to the receptors present in the airways and causes broncho dilation.

Ipratropium Bromide and Salbutamol is used to treat bronchospasm (narrowing of the airways) associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It is available in the form of a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) and nebulizer solution.

The usual adult dose is 1 to 2 puffs of the MDI or 2.5 mL of the nebulizer solution four times a day.

Common side effects of Ipratropium Bromide and Salbutamol include dry mouth, throat irritation, headache, upper respiratory infection, nasopharyngitis, cough, bronchitis, headache, and dyspnea.
