Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride
Oxymetazoline is a sympathomimetic that selectively agonizes α1 and, partially, α2 adrenergic receptors. Since vascular beds widely express α1 receptors, the action of oxymetazoline results in vasoconstriction. As a result vascular leakage is inhibited.
Oxymetazoline is a nasal decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, and hay fever. Oxymetazoline is also used to relieve sinus congestion and pressure.
The recommended adult dosage of Oxymetazoline nasal spray is 1 or 2 sprays in each nostril, not more than 3 to 4 times a day. The dosage should be determined by a healthcare professional based on the individual's needs and medical condition.
Side effects: Common side effects of Oxymetazoline may include:
- Nasal burning or irritation
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
Precautions and Warnings:
- Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to Oxymetazoline or any other medications.
- Tell your healthcare provider if you have any history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems, or any other medical conditions.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should not take Oxymetazoline unless the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks.
- Oxymetazoline may interact with other medications, so it's important to inform your healthcare provider of all the medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
- Use this medication only as directed by your healthcare provider. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your healthcare provider ordered.
