Sotalol Hydrochloride

Satolol belongs to a class of drugs called Antidysrhythmics. It is a non selective Beta-Blocker.

Satolol is indicated for different arrythmias, such as-

  • Ventricular arrythmias
  • Atrial flutter
  • At first, use 80 mg per day in 1-2 divided doses. After ECG monitoring and measurement of corrected QT interval, arrhythmias, the dose is gradually increased over two to three days to the typical amount of 160-320 mg daily in two divided doses; higher doses of 480-640 mg daily under specialist supervision for life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias.
  • In the case of renal impairment, the dosage should be lowered. If your creatinine clearance is greater than 60 ml/min, take 160 mg twice daily; if your creatinine clearance is between 40 and 60 ml/min, take 160 mg once day. Sotalol is contraindicated in patients with a creatinine clearance of less than 40 mL/min.

The most common side effects of satolol include:

  • bradycardia
  • edema
  • trouble breathing
  • dizziness
  • weakness & tiredness (asthenia)

Sotalol should not be used in patients with irregular heartbeats.

Sotalol should be used with caution; better if not used in the following patients-

  • serious kidney problems or are on dialysis
  • lung disease that causes shortness of breath (such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema)
  • heart failure symptoms (such as shortness of breath when exercising or physically active, and swelling of the ankles or legs)

Sotalol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sotalol hydrochloride or other beta antagonists, such as-
