Tioconazole

Tioconazole is an antifungal medication of the imidazole class used to treat infections caused by fungus or yeast.

Tioconazole is indicated for the following fungal infections-

  • Onychomycosis
  • Vaginal candidiasis
  • Nail fungal infections
Adult: As 28% soln: Apply to the affected nails and immediately surrounding skin 12 hourly for up to 6-12 month.
Child: Same as adult dose.
Elderly: Same as adult dose.
  • Vaginal candidiasis
    Adult: As 6.5% ointment: Insert 1 applicatorful intravaginally at bedtime as single dose.

How to apply vaginal cream/ointment:

Tioconazole can cause the following side effects-

  • Vulvo-vaginal burning and irritation
  • vaginitis
  • vulvovaginal disorder and desquamation
  • vaginal pain
  • vulvar oedema or swelling
  • vagina discharge
  • vaginal dryness
  • rash and dyspareunia
   

In case of vaginal cream-

  • avoid sexual intercourse
  • Condoms and diaphragms may be damaged and fail to prevent pregnancy or STD
  • Avoid using tampons, douches, spermicides or other vaginal products.
