Tioconazole
Tioconazole is an antifungal medication of the imidazole class used to treat infections caused by fungus or yeast.
Tioconazole is indicated for the following fungal infections-
- Onychomycosis
- Vaginal candidiasis
- Nail fungal infections
Adult: As 28% soln: Apply to the affected nails and immediately surrounding skin 12 hourly for up to 6-12 month.
Child: Same as adult dose.
Elderly: Same as adult dose.
Child: Same as adult dose.
Elderly: Same as adult dose.
- Vaginal candidiasis
Adult: As 6.5% ointment: Insert 1 applicatorful intravaginally at bedtime as single dose.
How to apply vaginal cream/ointment:
Tioconazole can cause the following side effects-
- Vulvo-vaginal burning and irritation
- vaginitis
- vulvovaginal disorder and desquamation
- vaginal pain
- vulvar oedema or swelling
- vagina discharge
- vaginal dryness
- rash and dyspareunia
In case of vaginal cream-
- avoid sexual intercourse
- Condoms and diaphragms may be damaged and fail to prevent pregnancy or STD
- Avoid using tampons, douches, spermicides or other vaginal products.
Contraindication
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to imidazoles, such as-
