Trimebutine Maleate

Trimebutine maleate is a gastroprokinetic drug that acts on the gastrointestinal smooth muscle to increase its motility, tone, and coordination. It is classified as an antispasmodic agent with partial mu-opioid receptor agonist activity.

 

Trimebutine maleate is indicated for the treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, non-ulcer dyspepsia, and intestinal pseudo-obstruction. It can also be used to relieve symptoms of abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, flatulence, and constipation.

 

The recommended dosage for adults is 200-300 mg of trimebutine maleate taken orally, 2 times a day before meals. The dosage for children should be determined by a physician based on their age and weight.

  • Trimebutine maleate may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so patients should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until they know how it affects them.
  • This drug should not be used in patients under 18 years of age unless prescribed by a physician.

 

Contraindication

Trimebutine maleate is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to trimebutine maleate or any of its components.

 

Trimebutine maleate should not be used in patients with mechanical obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract or in patients with known or suspected gastrointestinal perforation.
